Weight Loss Surgery FAQs
You have questions, we have answers.-
Q:Do you ever have trouble crossing the border?
A:Thankfully, no! The facilities we work with are issued a special medical tourism pass to ensure a hassle-free border crossing. Our private medical transport van will easily and safely drive you across the border both to and from Tijuana.
-
Q:I've never traveled to Mexico. Is it safe?
A:We believe so! While Mexico faces a variety of challenges like any other developing nation, the country is unique in its proximity and familiarity with Americans and American customs and has benefitted greatly from decades of favorable trade. The result is a generally friendly and welcoming neighbor to the South with a massive infrastructure for providing lower priced medical procedures specifically to Americans. We believe the service and quality of care meet or exceed those found in the U.S., with customer service and overall experience often far exceeding U.S. standards.
-
Q:How do I communicate with the Doctors? I don't speak Spanish.
A:All of our client coordinators and surgeons speak English and there is always a fluent English-speaking staff member on the floor at all times (even after hours). People often forget how close Tijuana is to the U.S. and how intertwined the two communities and economies are. The result is a local population with many proficient English speakers. Between our dedicated English-speaking staff and others at the hospital, you’ll always find yourself with someone thoughtful to speak to.
-
Q:Can I bring someone with me?
A:Yes! All rooms are equipped with a sleeper sofa to accommodate a guest throughout your stay. Your client coordinator will let him or her know of the local resources available and make sure to introduce them to all staff members should you need anything. Please keep in mind that your companion can stay for free, but their meals are not included.
-
Q:Do you book my airfare?
A:Unfortunately, no we do not provide that service. You are responsible for your travel to San Diego. Once you have your flight info, you send it to us so we can pick you up at the airport and take you to your chosen surgical facility in Tijuana.
-
Q:How do I get from the San Diego Airport to Mexico?
A:We have you covered. Transportation to and from the airport is on us. One of our dedicated drivers will pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your chosen surgical center in Tijuana and will return you to the airport when you’re done.
-
Q:How long has TreVita been in business?
A:TreVita brings a new level of innovation to an already innovative industry. We’ve been in business since 2018, but our team and our subject matter experts have many decades of combined experience. Our partner facilities are some of the best available with long track records of success and quality patient care.
-
Q:What happens if I have a medical issue with my surgery once I return to the U.S.?
A:The risks of a complication vary by surgical procedure. Your bariatric surgeon will review the potential risks and complications with you before surgery. If you have a complication after discharge from the hospital, your bariatric surgeon and their teams will assist you in solving the issue.
-
Q:How do I know which procedure I need?
A:Your surgeon will advise on that. When you fill out your application and medical questionnaire, we send it to your chosen surgical facility. The doctor will review the information you provide and discuss your best surgical options with you. Then he or she will approve you for one of the procedures offered that best addresses your medical concerns.
-
Q:How much weight loss can I expect and how long will it take?
A:Post-operative weight loss can vary greatly between patients and procedures performed, but historically we’ve seen somewhere between 50%-70% total excess weight loss in the first 6 months.
-
Q:How long will the weight loss surgery take? How long is recovery?
A:Surgery time and recovery is often specific to the patient and the procedure being performed. That said, most procedures take less than a few hours with a total hospital day not exceeding 3 nights. If, however, you’d like additional time to recover and relax, rooms are available in the hospital’s “hotel” wing for an additional cost. Specific instructions for post-operative recovery once you’re back in the U.S. will be provided by your surgeon.
-
Q:Will I have support after weight loss surgery?
A:After your surgery, you retain the ability to communicate with your surgeon and their staff. Additionally, you will have access to the TreVita Wellness Subscription to empower and guide you as progress.
-
Q:What's the minimum age to use TreVita's services for weight loss surgery?
A:You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction of residence, to register with and use the TreVita service.
-
Q:How much does weight loss surgery cost?
A:When shopping for medical tourism services you'll likely find a broad range of prices between different procedures, surgeons, and facilities. This is because not all procedures cost the same amount and not all facilities/surgeons are made equal. The same can be said of services like travel, recovery accommodations, and follow-up care. There are also differences between how providers will display their prices: some are all-inclusive, while others are full of hidden fees.
